SleepPro SFA is the latest anti-snoring device from SleepPro and MEDiTAS. The acronym stands for “self-fit adjustable,” and the device essentially wraps the best qualities of the manufacturer’s other two popular mouthpieces into one unique version.
You may not know it, but that snoring sound you hear is the result of soft tissues and muscle vibrating. When you sleep, your jaw relaxes, and is able to be pulled toward your throat by gravity. So, as air is forced through to your lungs, it causes the tissues to vibrate. Since SleepPro SFA holds your jaw, it is unable to block your airway while you sleep.
A Closer Look at SleepPro SFA
SleepPro SFA utilizes a boil-and-bite technology. So, you are able to achieve a custom fit from the privacy of your own home. Like the other two it also has air ports, which allows you to breathe through your mouth.
Many MADs force you to breathe through your nose or else they offer a hold so small that it barely lets any air through at all. Due to the generous-sized air holes, the device is appropriate for individuals with a deviated septum, nasal polyps, sinus problems, or nose injury that demands that they breathe through their mouth.
What distinguishes SleepPro SFA from other products is that it allows you to make seven unique incremental adjustments to achieve the most comfortable and effective position. This is done using interchangeable tension straps.
So, if you try a pair and find that you experience too much discomfort you can simply switch them for a different pair until you find the ideal ones for you. Most people find that the adjustment that is just after the middle point offers a suitable position.
Achieving a Good Fit
Do not let the boil-and-bite technique intimidate you. It is easier to achieve a quality fit than you might think. Plus, if you do not get it right the first time you can always try again.
To begin you will boil a couple cups of water, and then pour some into a coffee mug or small bowl. Follow the directions to insert the handle into the SFA, and then submerge it in the hot water for three minutes.
Allow it to cool to a safe temperature, and insert it into your mouth. When you bite down make sure your jaw is in a forward position. After about 40 seconds gently remove it, and place it in ice water. This will make it harden. After a few minutes remove it from the water, take out the handle, and adjust the straps. It is recommended to begin somewhere near the middle, and then make adjustments as needed.
After trying out SleepPro Standard previously, I was excited to see how SFA would compare. I decided to order it and give it a full two-week trial like I have so many other anti-snoring devices.
When it arrived I used the boil-and-white method described above to fit my device. I did this as soon as I opened it, so I would not have to fuss with it at bedtime. I adjusted the fit using shorter bands.
The first morning my jaw was pretty sore, so I swapped the bands for the next size up, and it helped tremendously. I felt a huge difference the second morning. The mouthpiece takes up minimal space in your mouth, so it is fairly comfortable. Most importantly, it did effectively stop my snoring. I know this because my wife confirmed it.
Let’s Talk Price
SleepPro SFA costs $129.99. Shipping is quite reasonable at $7.50. The product comes with a 30-day money back guarantee. Also, if you have recently purchased one of the other SleepPro products you might be eligible to receive a 20 percent discount.
About the Company
SleepPro is partnered with MEDiTAS, and they are based out of the United Kingdom. Since 1998, the duo has focused on treating snoring and sleeping disorders. They offer a total of four mouthpieces and one chip support strap.
Although headquartered in the UK, there are distribution centers in the United States, Europe, and Australia, which is why they are able to offer such affordable shipping.
Pros and Cons
Clearly, I had a positive experience with SleepPro. However despite the fact that is effective and offers thoughtful features does not mean that it is not without its negative points. It is important to become familiar with both the pros and cons of any device that you decide to purchase.
- Offers seven unique settings of jaw advancement to achieve the perfect positioning.
- Boil-and-bite technique allows you to get a custom fit.
- Air holes make it easy to breathe through your mouth.
- Available through an established company with a trusted reputation.
- May cause jaw and/or teeth soreness.
- Might experience drooling while your mouth gets used to it.
- Money back guarantee is only for a 50 percent refund.
SleepPro SFA really is an effective product to prevent snoring. I like that it is comfortable and adjustable. Plus, it has breathing holes, which I prefer in a mouthpiece. If the same exact design was available as a lab-molded option like the SleepPro Custom it would be even better.
It might cost a little more, but it could be made using thinner material, which would be even better. If you can afford the $129, I recommend trying SleepPro SFA. Otherwise, there are plenty of other less expensive boil-and-bite products available.
I also suggest trying Good Morning Snore Solution, more commonly referred to as GMSS. It costs about the same as SFA, but takes up even less room in your mouth. Unlike mandibular advancement devices that hold your jaw forward, GMSS is a tongue stabilizing device. It works by holding your tongue so it can’t fall back towards your throat.
I own a GMSS and have found it effective. I actually prefer it over SFA because there is no fitting process involved at all. It simply uses a suction to hold your tongue, and it rests on the exterior of your teeth. GMSS is BPA-free, latex-free, and FDA-cleared. I have actually recommended it to a few family members and friends, and they have all been pleased with the results.

Which Product Should I Buy?
With well over 100 products on the market it can obviously be quite daunting to decide, “Which one?”
To help ease the decision process I have created a comparison chart where you can effortlessly assess each product and its features, price, pros and cons. I have also written several detailed reviews for those devices that I believe to be leading products.
If you would rather not spend a lot of time reading reviews, please take a look at the article linked here: My Mouthpiece Recommendation. It’s a list of three products which I believe, based on my extensive experience, are the best options available to people who suffer from snoring.
